what you buy is a moral choice
It’s too easy to simply ignore the fact that no matter what we spend money on, we are choosing to support the company, in its entirety, that produced the goods that we are purchasing. People don’t think that, by going to Wal*Mart, you’re supporting the business practices that has made the company successful. You are lending your voice to the business practices of whatever company that you support. Honestly, the next car I buy will be a hybrid or pure electric car because I value the impact that that vehicle will have on the earth. Hopefully, that car company will continue to innovate new alternative fuel vehicles because I buy one.
It’s a cop-out to say: “I don’t really know what the company is all about, I don’t intend to support their practices…” You may not truly know what a company does, but it’s important to do some due diligence. I mean if you’re still buying #nikeshoes you’ve clearly not been playing attention for the last 15 years. There are lots of reasons to support alternatives to the giant capitalist machine, first and fore most is standing with the worker, and the “mom and pop” stores and saying: I value you.
