it8bit: Classic NES Box Art: Contra What once started as a coin-op game in 1987 became an icon of run and gun gaming for the home Nintendo Entertainment System in ‘88.  It garnered a lot of its fame for simultaneous two player gameplay, which was fairly uncommon at that time. Due to it’s high difficulty and only starting with three lives IGN ranked it number one on its toughest games to beat list.  It was surprisingly ranked at only number ten on Gametrailers top ten list of most difficult games along with Ninja Gaiden and Battletoads.  But thank the heavens for the famous Konami Code!  I’m pretty sure it was the only thing that got most of us gamers through to fight Red Falcon. But, Contra has attained a cult following and we can be pumped to play the new Contra on whichever system it comes out on.  Teaser trailer below!  All I know is there better be a Konami Code hidden in there. One of my favorites.
